Life Saving

Salvation in the word of God means the saving of the soul and spirit of man from the punishment of sin due to disobedience to the commands of the living God our creator.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

God created man in his own image (Genesis 1:27)
When God made man, man was without sin full of Gods glory and holiness, but sadly he lost the glory by disobeying God, through the subtlety of the serpent (devil), Adam & Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden.

Through one person sin entered into the whole world.

The soul that sinneth, it shall die. (Ezekiel 18:20)

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  (Romans 6:23)

Prophet John said “Next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)

“But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”

For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh; how much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:11-14)

We read “This ye know, that no whoremonger nor unclean, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.  Let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the Children of disobedience.” (Ephesians 5:5-6)

You cannot have forgiveness of all your past sins without true repentance from sin.  There must be in your heart a true hatred for sin and a turning from it before you can come to Jesus Christ the saviour of sinners and obey his commandments and not the commandments of men.

God commands all men to repent for the kingdom of God is at hand (Matthew 4:17)
God wants you “to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, to receive the forgiveness of sins (Acts 26:18)

“I pray you may turn from idols to serve the living God 1 Thessalonians 1:9

If you repent and turn to Jesus Christ and call upon him for mercy and salvation.  He will hear from heaven and will forgive you of your sins and will give you the gift of God the Holy Spirit.  You will be born again, born of God.  Thus you will become a child of God.  “Born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man but of God (John 1:13)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

You can pray.
If you do not have full assurance that all you past sins are forgiven kneel down before the almighty God the creator of all things and say, “Lord Jesus I thank you for coming into this world in your great love to suffer the wrath of God for my sins on the cross.  I thank you Lord for becoming a sacrifice for my sins, and your precious blood shed for the forgiveness of my sins, have mercy upon me and forgive all my sins, cleanse me, wash my sins away with your precious blood.  I now receive you as my saviour come and dwell in me and be the Lord of my life Amen.”

“Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priest unto God and father’ to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever Amen.  (Revelation 1:5-6)

Do look at the cross, Jesus dying there for you, he never sinned but on the cross he took the penalty for the sins of the whole world.

Your sin is real, you cannot save yourself.  “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.  (Acts 16:31)

At the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ two names were give to him by the Almighty God himself.

First “thou shall call his name JESUS for he shall save his people from their sins.  (Matthew 1:21)

Second “And thou shall call his name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Many years prior to the birth of Christ, prophet Isaiah says “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The prince of peace.  (Isaiah 9:6)

Lord Jesus Christ has become our Salvation.

What is the meaning of Baptism?

The Greek word “Baptizo” means immersion when someone is baptised, the whole person is immersed under the water for a moment.  This symbolically represents death, burial and resurrection.  When you are baptised you say, symbolically, that you are united with the Lord Jesus Christ in his death, burial and resurrection.

Why should you be baptised?

Is it necessary for you to be baptised?
You should know this on the basis of the Holy scriptures not only for your own satisfaction but also in order that you may be able to give a good answer to friends who may enquire from you why you are taking, or have taken this step.

Here are three scriptural reasons:

  1. Baptism is commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. Lord Jesus Christ himself was baptised.
  3. The apostles preached and practised baptism.

Let us examine these reasons one by one.

Baptism is commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ

The Lords command is recorded in two places; Matthew 28:19 and Mark 16:6.
Remember the Lord Jesus Christ; the Son of God is the highest authority both in this world and the world to come.  No should question his command when you take baptism in obedience to him, you acknowledge the authority of the Lord Jesus, and declare that he is the Lord of all.

Lord Jesus Christ himself was baptised

This is the second reason why you also should be baptised.  The Lord Jesus Christ himself set us the example by being baptised.

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.  But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?  And Jesus answering said unto him, suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. (Matthew 3:13-15)

He is the Lord of all, and he is without sin yet he humbled himself and was baptised with love and humility, he pleads with you that you should follow in his footsteps.

Dear child of God, if baptism is good enough for your Lord and Master, is it not good enough for you?  The Lord Jesus Christ says “learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  (Matthew 11:29)

In baptism you say that you take the Lord Jesus Christ as your example and wish to become meek and lowly like him.

Baptism is meant for sinners who have repented.  And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.  (Matthew 3:6)

Many repented sinners came to John the Baptist.  They confessed their sins and were baptised.  Imagine this one day John the Baptist is by the river Jordan.  A group of murderers, thieves, drunkards and other sinful men, now repentant, have come to be baptised.  The Lord Jesus takes his place among them.  He took his place among sinners how great is his humility!

Is it not a wonder that the one who never sinned was ready to be baptised, but those who have sinned say, it is not necessary?

When we are baptised we say joyfully, my humble Lord Jesus went this way and I am ready to allow him, because “The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.”
(Matthew 10:24)

The Apostles preached and practised baptism

This is the third reason why you also should be baptised.  On the day of Pentecost 3000 souls were saved and baptised. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38).  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.  (Acts 2:41)

The Apostle Paul himself was baptised.  And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. (Acts 9:18)
Then he explains the meaning of baptism in Romans 6:3-5.  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

It is far better to follow the example of the apostles than to depend upon our own wisdom, or follow the traditional practises of men.  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.  (Ephesians 2:20)

“Christians are to be built upon the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.  (Hebrews 6:1-2)

Union with Christ in his death
Apostle Paul says “I am Crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20)

Again he explains “our old man is crucified with him” (Romans 6:6)
Our sinful nature is like a fierce lion within us.  Whatever sin you may commit you cannot redeem yourself.  There is only one way of deliverance, you must be united with the Lord Jesus in his death.  This is exactly what happened to you when you were born again, your old nature which troubled you so much, is now crucified with Christ.  It is dead; believe this and it will have no more power over you.  When you understand this, it will bring you great joy and victory into your life.  Please read the passage of Paul’s conversion in Acts 9:1-18 When Paul left Jerusalem he was like a fierce dragon.  The dragon is said to breathe out fire and smoke.  Saul who later became Paul, “was breathing out threatenings and slaughter” (Acts 9:1)

As this terrible man proceeded to Damascus, the Lord Jesus appeared to him in vision.  That very moment the old Saul died.  He became a new man.  “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17)

Later on Saul was given a new name, he became known as Paul.  Now he was able to say “I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.”
(Galatians 2:20)

Union with Christ in his burial

There are two places in the scriptures where baptism is spoken of as burial; Romans 6:4 and Colossians 2:12.

When a dead body is buried, it is put out of sight.  See when Sara died Abraham said “give me a possession of a burying place with you, that I may bury my dead of my sight.  (Genesis 23:4)

When you accepted Christ as your Saviour, all your sins were forgiven and put out of sight, as God has said “I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.  (Hebrews 8:2)

When you are baptised you show symbolically that Christ’s burial has become your burial.

Union with Christ in his Resurrection

When you come out of the water after baptism you show in a symbolic manner, that you are risen with Christ.  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. (Romans 6:5)

Now Christ is living in you, and that is why you are able to walk in newness of life.   Galatians 2:20.  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:24 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  Romans 6:4.

Satan will oppose you, but he has no power to overcome you, Romans 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.  Romans 6:7 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.  Romans 6:14

Thus you become dead to sin & Satan and alive to God.  As you ponder over all this, and meditate the word of God, and understand the truth of your union with the Lord Jesus Christ in his death, burial and resurrection.

This is how your joy will be multiplied your faith will increase, and your life will become victorious.  Thus, when you are baptised, you can declare triumphantly that you are risen with Christ.

May the Lord God Almighty help you to understand the meaning of baptism increasingly day by day, and lead you to the enjoyment of victorious life in Christ?

Everlasting (eternal) life

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  “He that believeth on him is not condemned but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God” (John 3:16-18)

He that believeth on the son hath everlasting life; and he that believeth not the son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John3:36)

To you who believe, God gives his free gift of everlasting life (or eternal life).  We read “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23)

“This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3)

It is not knowing about God.

Do you know God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent?  It is not knowing the holy scriptures, but receiving by faith Jesus Christ of whom the holy scriptures speak.  Jesus said “search the scriptures: for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life” (John 5:39-40.

Do you know you have eternal life?

“This is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life; and this life is in his son.  He that hath the son hath life; and he that hath not the son of God hath not life.  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life” 1 John 5:11-13.

Dear reader, be sure your sins are forgiven and that you know you have eternal life.  Be sure you know Jesus Christ in truth and that he has come to dwell in you by the Holy Spirit.

The son of God, Jesus Christ died on the cross and paid the price of the sins of the whole world.  The world of God says “The blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin.  1 John 1:7B

Also note “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrightousness.  (1 John 1:9)

“We know that the son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his son Jesus Christ.  This is the true God, and eternal life.  (1 John 5:20)

Then the word of God goes on to say, “Little children, keep yourselves from idols” 1 John 5:21.  If you have believed on the son of God, and received him by faith as your saviour, then you cannot continue in worship of idols or images of stone, gold, wood, or any kind of false worship.

You cannot continue in doctrines and commandments of men.  You cannot stay in false churches, with their false prophets ordained by men and paid by men.  “The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? None evil can come upon us.  (Micah 3:11)

As Jesus taught in Jerusalem many believed on him.  “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.  John 8:31-32.

May God bless you; is your name written in the book of life?  (Eternal life).  Do not neglect your eternal salvation.  Will you not believe on the son of God and come to him for salvation and eternal life, that God may blot out your sins from his books?  “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”
(Isaiah 43:25)

You have only to call upon the Lord Jesus Christ with your mouth, believing in your heart that he has borne the judgement of all your sins in your place.  “The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” Isaiah 53:6.

He that beliveth on the son hath everlasting (eternal) life: and he that believeth not the son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.  John 3:36
